Sherwood College - College in Nainital

Sherwood College is one of India's most prestigious and historic co-educational residential schools, founded in 1869 on the beautiful Ayarpatta hill in Nainital. Originally established as the Diocesan Boys’ School under the patronage of Rev. Robert Milman, it adopted the name Sherwood College in 1937.

Spaning a lush 45-acre campus, the school is renowned for its commitment to holistic education, blending a rich, over 150-year-old legacy with modern facilities and pedagogy. The architectural style features an aesthetic mix of post-Edwardian structures, complete with Gothic windows and Romanesque arches.

The school is affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), preparing students from Classes III to XII for the ICSE (Class X) and ISC (Class XII) examinations. Beyond academics, Sherwood is known for its extensive co-curricular programs, including drama, music, art, and a vast array of sports.

Sherwood College's motto is "Mereat Quisque Palmam" (Let Each One Merit His Prize). Its illustrious alumni, known as Old Sherwoodians, include Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, actor Amitabh Bachchan, and author Jim Corbett, among many other leaders in the armed forces, arts, and public service.
