6. COPYRIGHT OWNERSHIP AND AUTHORITY
DSI may request additional information reasonably necessary to verify the complainant's identity, ownership or authority to act.
Submitting a copyright complaint does not automatically establish infringement. DSI may consider the information provided, the content and relevant circumstances before deciding what action, if any, is appropriate.
False, malicious or knowingly inaccurate copyright complaints may expose the complainant to legal consequences.
7. RESPONSE TO COPYRIGHT COMPLAINTS
After receiving a sufficiently detailed complaint, DSI may review the identified content and may take appropriate steps, which can include requesting clarification, contacting the uploader/contributor, restricting access, removing content, disabling a particular publication, seeking additional evidence, or taking no action where the complaint is unsupported or a lawful basis for the content appears to exist.
The Copyright Act provides remedies for copyright infringement, including civil remedies such as injunctions and damages in appropriate cases. ?cite?turn0search26?
DSI does not guarantee that every complaint will result in removal. The outcome will depend on the facts, applicable law, available evidence and the nature of the content.
8. COUNTER-NOTICE / RESPONSE FROM CONTENT CONTRIBUTOR
If content has been restricted or removed following a copyright complaint, the affected contributor may contact DSI with a written explanation and supporting evidence showing, as applicable, ownership, licence, permission, fair dealing or another lawful basis for use.
DSI may review such response and may restore or continue restricting content depending on the circumstances and applicable law.
Where a dispute involves complex legal issues, DSI may require the parties to resolve the dispute directly or through the appropriate legal forum.
9. FAIR DEALING AND OTHER LEGAL EXCEPTIONS
Not every use of copyrighted material is necessarily infringement. Indian copyright law contains statutory exceptions and limitations, including provisions concerning fair dealing in specified circumstances.
DSI does not make a legal determination for either party merely because a complaint is submitted. Users and rights holders should obtain independent legal advice where the issue is disputed or commercially significant.
10. TRADEMARK COMPLAINTS
If you believe that a DSI page or user-submitted content improperly uses your trademark, trade name, logo or other brand identifier, please provide:
• Your name and contact information;
• Trademark owner information;
• Registration number and jurisdiction, where applicable;
• A copy or details of the relevant trademark;
• Exact URL(s) of the disputed content;
• Explanation of the alleged infringement or misleading use;
• Evidence of ownership or authority;
• Requested action.
DSI may request additional evidence before taking action.
11. IMAGE, PHOTO AND VIDEO COMPLAINTS
For photographs, graphics, videos, illustrations or other visual material, identify the original work, rights holder, source, exact DSI URL and the basis of your complaint.
If the issue concerns personal privacy, publicity rights, impersonation or misuse of a person's likeness rather than copyright, clearly identify that concern so it can be reviewed under the appropriate policy.
12. PLAGIARISM / CONTENT COPYING
If you believe an article, founder story, business profile or other content has been copied from your original work without permission or appropriate attribution, please provide:
• Original source URL or publication record;
• DSI URL;
• Date of original publication, if available;
• Description of the copied material;
• Evidence of authorship or ownership;
• Explanation of the requested remedy.
DSI may compare the materials and request additional information from the parties.
13. FALSE INFORMATION / BUSINESS PROFILE COMPLAINTS
If a company, founder or other person believes that a DSI profile contains materially false, outdated or misleading information, please provide the exact URL, identify the disputed statement and supply reliable evidence supporting the requested correction.
DSI may correct, update, annotate or remove information where appropriate. Publication of a correction request does not guarantee that the requested change will be made.
14. GOVERNMENT / OFFICIAL INFORMATION COMPLAINTS
If you believe DSI has published an inaccurate government notification, scheme detail, regulatory update or official information, provide the relevant DSI URL and the current official source or notification supporting the correction.
Government-scheme and regulatory information can change; users should verify important information with the relevant official authority.
15. PRIVACY / PERSONAL DATA GRIEVANCES
For complaints concerning personal data, privacy, account information, deletion requests or data-handling practices, please identify the relevant DSI page, account or processing activity and describe the concern.
Privacy complaints should be handled consistently with DSI's Privacy Policy and applicable data-protection law. The Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025 form part of India's current data-protection framework, with provisions applying according to their applicable commencement/enforcement timeline. ?cite?turn0search0?turn0search3?
Please do not send passwords, OTPs, complete payment-card details or other unnecessary sensitive credentials in a grievance email.
16. ADVERTISING / SPONSORED CONTENT COMPLAINTS
If an advertisement, sponsored article, paid startup story, featured listing or promotional post appears misleading, deceptive, insufficiently disclosed or otherwise inconsistent with DSI's Advertiser / Sponsored Content Policy, please provide the advertisement URL or screenshot, advertiser name, relevant claim and reason for the complaint.
DSI may review the content and may request clarification, substantiation, correction or removal.
17. COMMUNITY / ABUSE REPORTS
Users may report spam, impersonation, harassment, unlawful content, malicious links, fraudulent activity, hate content or other violations of DSI's Community Guidelines / Content Policy.
Please provide the exact URL or account/profile identifier, a concise explanation and supporting evidence where available.
18. EMERGENCY OR ILLEGAL ACTIVITY
If you believe content involves an immediate threat to safety, serious criminal conduct, child exploitation, terrorism, active fraud or another urgent matter, contact the appropriate law-enforcement or emergency authority in addition to notifying DSI where appropriate.
DSI is not an emergency-response service and an email to DSI should not be treated as a substitute for contacting emergency services.
19. REQUIRED INFORMATION AND EVIDENCE
To help prevent abuse of the grievance process, DSI may request reasonable evidence or verification.
Depending on the complaint, this may include identity verification, ownership documents, copyright registration information, licences, publication records, trademark documents, authorisation letters, screenshots, URLs, transaction records or other relevant material.
Only information reasonably necessary for evaluating the complaint should be supplied.
20. CONFIDENTIALITY AND PRIVACY
DSI will handle grievance communications in accordance with applicable law and its Privacy Policy.
Information may be shared with relevant internal personnel, service providers, professional advisers, legal representatives, regulators, law-enforcement authorities or other parties where reasonably necessary to investigate, respond to, defend or resolve a complaint, or where required by law.
DSI cannot guarantee absolute confidentiality where disclosure is legally required or necessary to resolve a dispute.
21. ABUSE OF THE GRIEVANCE PROCESS
DSI may take action against repeated, fraudulent, malicious, threatening or knowingly false complaints.
Examples include submitting knowingly false ownership claims, impersonating rights holders, attempting to suppress lawful criticism through false copyright claims, or using the grievance mechanism to harass another user.
22. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT AND PROCESSING
DSI may acknowledge receipt of a complaint when appropriate. The time required to investigate may vary depending on complexity, evidence, number of URLs, third-party involvement and applicable legal requirements.
An acknowledgement of receipt does not mean that DSI has accepted the allegations or determined that the content is unlawful.
23. REQUEST FOR CORRECTION OR UPDATE
For factual corrections that do not involve copyright, please use the subject line "CORRECTION REQUEST – [URL]" and provide:
• Exact statement to be corrected;
• Proposed correction;
• Evidence supporting the correction;
• Relevant source or official document;
• Your relationship to the subject matter.
DSI may contact the original contributor or source before making a correction.
